Daily Thoughts 04/04/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of The Collected Essays of James Baldwin on the way to work.  I also read a bit more of New York 2140.  Some of the characters are finance people who do quantitative analysis and trading.

I checked the gift books and the displays.  I also put up a banner which says April is National Poetry Month.  I have another banner ready which says May is National Mental Wellness Month.

I spent some time working on an order for nonfiction today.  Hopefully, we should have a share your story page on the website by Monday.

On the way home, I read some more of New York 2140.  In this story, the sea levels around Manhattan have risen 60 feet.

Daily Thoughts 04/03/2017

I checked the Twitter and Facebook for the library.

I checked the gift books and the displays this morning.

I spent most of the morning in the computer lab.

I have to work on orders and look over how I am spending money.

I have a copy of Booklist, Publishers Weekly, and the New York Times Book Review to read.

On the way home, I read some more of The Collected Essays of James Baldwin.  I rather like the essays on Harlem, New York and how the ghetto is not a place for anyone.

I also read some more of New York 2140.  The lower half of Manhattan is drowned in the story and people get around on boats and small watercraft.  The upper half is on dry land with huge skyscrapers.  The story is very much focused on the setting.

Daily Thoughts 03/31/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I checked the displays and the gift books.

I read the book, Normal by Warren Ellis last night.  It is a very short novel about futurism.  The main character goes crazy because he has been looking into the abyss of what the future might be for too long.  He ends up in an asylum for futurists.  Then it gets truly strange with weird technology, conspiracy theory, spooky people, and madness.  It is very entertaining and bizarre.  The book is very short.  It can be finished in one sitting.  Warren Ellis writes graphic novels in addition to novels.  I especially liked his writing for the comic book, Transmetropolitan.

April is National Poetry Month.

I spent some time looking through the 600s today.

I checked out the book, James Baldwin, Collected Essays.
