Daily Thoughts 08/05/2017

Portrait of Elisabeth Mertens and Her Late Husband, 1630, Cornelis de Vos

Daily Thoughts 08/05/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of No One is Coming to Save Us by Stephanie Powell Watts.  The writing is excellent.  The structure and grammar is very crisp, orderly, and well put together.

I read a little bit more of Trend Trading for Dummies this morning.  I am reading about Elliott Waves and Fibonacci Numbers.  A. Wiley Brand describes how it is impossible to predict the market.  How the stock market moves can be measured with probability, not with certainty.

I worked a bit on the Libraries Ready to Code grant this morning.  I also worked on my final project for Planning and Management of Library Buildings.

I did a list of Job Information Center titles for Bookletters.

I entered a drawing to win a Spark Fun Inventors Kit and a Lilypad Kit

Little boy writing a letter - Norman Rockwell
Little Boy Writing A Letter, Norman Rockwell, 1920

Daily Thoughts 08/04/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I finished reading Simply Clean by Becky Rapinchuk.  The final parts are about how to make safe cleaning products and work on specific areas in houses.  I read a little bit more of No One Is Coming to Save Us today.  The characters have struggled out of poverty to reach the middle class.

I checked the displays and the displays and the gift books today.

I also checked some of the oversize books.

There were two people who I proctored this morning.  They were taking Accuplacer exams.

I spent a little time in the lab.

I discussed the Libraries Ready to Code grant this morning as well as my final assignment for the Planning and Management of Library Buildings.

We met with Peter Sherrill today to discuss a Local Author Fair at the Mount Vernon Public Library planned for October 7, 2017.

I am waiting to hear on several grants.

I checked out the book, The Joy of Less A Minimalist Guide to Declutter, Organize, and Simplify by Francine Jay and The New Librarianship Field Guide by R. David Lankes.

Davidson Titles was acquired by The Rainbow Book Company  http://www.rainbowbookcompany.com/

I am seeing a jump in the total number of holds from other libraries.

On the way home, I read some more of No One Is Coming to Save Us.  I already read some of Trend Trading for Dummies by A. Wiley Brand.  A. Wiley Brand describes how he has several different screens he looks at while he is trading for different charts.  He also describes how his computers are set up with fast upload and download, universal power supplies in case of blackouts, and broadband connections.  He has his cell phone to call his broker in case the software stops working.  This shows how risky it is to trade over computers.

M.C. Escher, Wrapping Paper, 1933

Daily Thoughts 08/03/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook today.

I checked the gift books and the displays this morning.

I read some more of Simply Clean.  This book creates a cleaning scheduling based on day of the week and month of the year.

I spent a little time working on scheduling.

I worked on the oversize books and the 900s today.

The book, Planning the Modern Public Library Building  Edited by Gerard B. McCabe and James R. Kennedy has come in for me to read.  I am going to be reading portions of it to help finish my final assignment for Planning and Management of Library Buildings.  The book did not have a whole lot about technology in it.

Another literacy group has come into the library called Amazing Readers Phonetic Literacy.

I spent some more time working on my final assignment for a new Digital Media lab for the Planning and Management of Library Buildings.  I also worked on the Libraries Ready to Code grant today.

On the way home, I read a little bit more of No One Is Coming to Save Us.  It is supposed to be an updated version of the Great Gatsby set in an African American community.

Daily Thoughts 08/02/2017

I checked the Twitter and Facebook for the library this morning.

I read some more of Getting Started in Stock Analysis.  I am reading about charting, candlestick patterns, and channel lines.  It reminds me a little of fortune telling with tea leaves.

I checked the gift books and the displays this morning.

I am looking at the Community Reinvestment Act.  Banks have to give a certain amount back to their community through loans and equity.

I spent a little time working on programming.  We are putting together an annual calendar of events.  I also read a copy of the Times Literary Supplement.

I worked some on the Libraries Ready to Code grant from Google.  I am almost done filling in the form.

Mount Vernon Public Library is doing a Read Down Your Fines program.
http://mountvernonpubliclibrary.org/st-pauls-church/

The graphic novels, Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol and Brain Camp by Susan Kim have come in for me to read.  I enjoyed reading them on the train home.  It was a chance to relax.

I also finished reading Getting Started In Stock Analysis Illustrated Edition by Michael C. Thomsett on the way home.  The last part was on moment focusing on being overbought or oversold.  I learned a lot about technical analysis from this book.  While, it is not fundamental, it will give me a better sense of when to buy a particular stock.

Daily Thoughts 08/01/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of Getting Started In Stock Analysis on the way to work today.  I am reading about PE or price/earnings as well as dividends.

I checked the gift books and the displays this morning.

I looked through a copy of the New York Review of Books.

I read the guidelines for my final assignment for the Planning and Management of Library Buildings.  I have quite a bit to modify for the paper.  I am halfway done.  I spent some more time adjusting the assignment.

I checked some of the 900s this morning.

I also requested a pickup for Better World Books.

There is a Fundamentals of Computer Class and a Beginning Microsoft Word 2013 class tonight in the computer lab.   We also had our Crochet Group from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Alderac Entertainment sent over some sample board games for the Adult Games Night.  I am looking forward to seeing how people like them.  They include, Love Letter Clamshell, Light and Dark, Smash Up, Fantazhee: Hordes and Heroes, and Greedy Greedy Goblins.

I checked out the book, Simply Clean The Proven Method for Keeping Your Home Organized, Clean, and Beautiful In Just 10 Minutes a Day by Becky Rapinchuk.
