Daily Thoughts 09/05/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

Last night, I stayed up late and read The Obelisk Gate by N.K, Jemisin which is the second book in the Broken Earth trilogy.  It was quite gripping.  I am starting the third book in the series today, The Stone Sky.

I placed an order for new books this morning.

I am planning on working on the calendar and programming today.  There are a few things which I have to check.

I have a copy of the October Ingram Advance to read.  I also have a copy of the New York Times Book Review to read.

I got a copy of an Advanced Reading Copy for The Spark by David Drake.  David Drake is a military science fiction author.

There is a Fundamentals of Computers class tonight and a Beginning Microsoft Word 2013 class tonight as well.

I am enjoying reading The Spark.  It feels a little like a golden age Poul Anderson or Andre Norton story.  There is a light touch of humor in the story.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I learned that Peachstate Hobby Distribution, distributes board games wholesale to libraries.

I listened to some more of Get Organized the Clear and Simple Way this morning.  I also started reading The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin which is the second book in The Broken Earth trilogy.

I read a little bit more of Learn Better by Ulrich Boser.  I am reading about how creating meaning for a subject generates better understanding than studying a subject.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

Last night, I started reading Learn Better by Ulrich Bose.  The book starts out with the idea that people do better at learning when they can find value and meaning in what they are learning about.

I also started reading The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin yesterday.  It won the 2016 Hugo Award.

I have been listening to Get Organized The Clear and Simple Way Reclaim Your Home, Your Office, Your Life by Marla Dee on Overdrive.  It is an MP3.

I checked the purchase alerts tonight.  I also laid out a plan for next week.

Daily Thoughts 09/02/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of Information Services to Diverse Populations this morning.  This book is focused on diversity.  It is about how to handle interactions with diverse populations.  The book also focuses on hiring more diverse librarians as well as increasing the number of minorities in the library professorship.  There is quite a bit on managing librarians from diverse backgrounds as well.  There is an appendix with a course outline for a library class in diversity.  There is not a lot on assessing different communities for diversity or purchasing diverse material.

I watched two half hour session of the Science of Mindfulness A Research Based Path to Well Being on Hoopla Digital today.  This finished my five monthly sessions of Hoopla.

I finished reading Information Services to Diverse Populations Developing Culturally Competent Library Professionals by Nicole A. Cooke.  There is a list of professional organizations, conferences, and initiatives  that are tied with diversity in the back of the book near the index.  I looked through it for awards for diverse material.

Daily Thoughts 09/01/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of Information Services to Diverse Populations.  There are some sections which highlight important recent issues in librarianship like social workers in the library and the stereotype of the typical librarian.

I did another negative space drawing exercise from the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain today.  It is of the same chair as last time in my living room.

I also watched another session of Science of Mindfulness A Research Based Path to Well Being on Hoopla Digital today.

I checked the Publishers Weekly Bestseller list and the New York Times Bestseller list today.
