Daily Thoughts 09/13/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of Phenomena last night.  There is a bit on when Aldous Huxley met Dr. Puharich and wrote The Doors of Perception.  It also has quite a bit on Uri Geller.  From my perspective the book is more interesting because of the people than the extra sensory perception.  There is a mix of every kind of strangeness from eccentricity to madness.

I checked the gift books and the displays this morning.

We have our first author registered for the Local Author Fair on October 7, 2017.

There is a management meeting at 2:30 p.m. today.

I have been printing up some flyers for various events.

I also met briefly with the instructor from the crochet group.

Three books came in for me to read, Our Iceberg Is Melting by John Kotter and Holger Rathgeber, Ideas Are Free by Alan G. Robinson and Dean M. Schroeder, and the ALA Big Book of Library Grant Money by Ann Kepler.

There is a Beginning Wordpress class tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Computer Lab.

I read Our Iceberg is Melting by John Kotter and Holger Rathgeber tonight on the way home.  John Kotter is the author of Who Moved My Cheese.  This is basically a business fable about how to handle a very unpleasant situation with a smile.  It is meant to prepare people to make extreme choices put forth by management groups.  I found the book to be both funny and cynical at the same time.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I finished reading What It Means When A Man Falls from the Sky Stories by Lesley Nneka Arimah on the way home.  I liked the titular story.  It had a bit of magical realism to it.  I also read some more of Phenomena.  I am reading about Dr. Puharich and the Roundtable Foundation.  It is a bit spooky and wacky at the same time.

I checked the gift books and the displays this morning.

I also placed several orders for new books.

I learned about The Documentary Heritage and Preservation Services of New York which does Archival Assessments this morning.  http://dhpsny.org/archival-needs-assessments

I spent some time working on the Hispanic Heritage month programs this afternoon.

I did a Bookletters list for eBooks today.

There is a Fundamentals of Computers Class and a Beginning Microsfot Word class tonight.

Daily Thoughts 09/09/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some of Successful Library Fundraising Best Practices Edited by M. Sandra Wood.   One of the main points which I got from the book was that we need to get a base of people who provide funds to a library and contact them on a continuous basis or create long term endowments to a library.  The most money comes from planned giving.

I looked up some of the local authors from Mount Vernon today.

I read some more of What It Means When a Man Falls From the Sky Stories.  I especially like the short story, War Story.

I spent some time looking at games today for our library.  I am planning to do an order of both traditional and new games.  We have received a variety of games as donations which are being used in our Adult Board Games night.

I requested the Free Library Starter Set from American Go

Program Model Circulating Board Game Collection.
