Daily Thoughts 10/05/2017

I checked the Twitter and Facebook for the library this morning.

Last night, I finished the first part of my assignment for Organization and Personnel Management.

I read some more on the train.  I looked through Practical Evaluation Techniques for Libraries by Richard Applegate.  It helped me better discuss a survey which the director is working on for the library.

I also looked through Build A Great Team One Year to Success by Catherine Hakala-Ausperk.  This gave me a much better sense of what I need to write for my next assignment.

The last Flamenco class was today by Josie LaRiccia.  It was enjoyable to watch.  It was from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. today.  I took some more pictures.  I am getting a better sense of how a digital camera works.  Next week we are doing Holiday Papercrafts of Mexico and South America.

I entered a few more people for the Mount Vernon Local Author Fair at the Mount Vernon Public Library.  I rather like Henry A. May who wrote a book called First Black Autos. http://stalwartpublications.homestead.com/

Daily Thoughts 10/04/2017

Daily Thoughts 10/04/2017

I checked the Twitter and Facebook for the Mount Vernon Public Library this morning.

I put out some copies of the latest Bookpage.

I also checked the gift books and the displays this morning.

I read the latest New York Times Book Review.

I talked to several different authors today.  There are a number of new author biographies up on the list of authors attending.  I spent time talking to the Director about the people who were coming.  I also prepared some biographical information for Mount Vernon Arts and Culture.  I think we are reaching a lot of people.

I spent a little time going over advertising for events. We need to work on a few things like the calendar.

On the way home, I sat and planned for what I am doing tomorrow.  We have some display boards which we will use to show author biographies for the Mount Vernon Local Author Fair.

Daily Thoughts 10/03/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.  I also did a little more with LinkedIn.

We made a giant poster this morning and hung it outside today for the author fair.  I also sent a reminder email to all staff about the fair.  I have been getting a few more calls about the fair as well.  We have 12 authors so far of all types.  http://mountvernonpubliclibrary.org/mount-vernon-local-author-fair-2017/

I checked the displays and the gift books.  I also put in an order for new books.

The Crochet Group is meeting today from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

I read some more of the Core Strength Workout.  I have been using some the exercises.  I try and do floor exercises for a little bit every night as well as walking.

I also read a little bit more of Expect More by David Lankes.  One of the things which David Lankes is describing is how libraries are increasingly becoming involved in the creative process.  People make things and write in libraries, not just check out books or movies.  This is a change in how libraries work.  I am quite interested in the concept of the library as publisher.

I spent a little time going over local authors with a colleague.  Part of this process is thinking about the increasing move from curation to content where people increasingly want to produce their own work.  It is similar to the idea of not just reading books on computers, but teaching classes on computers.  People want their services to be much more interactive.

The Mount Vernon Public Library listed the Mount Vernon Author Fair on WVOX http://wvox.com/wvox-community-calendar/… The Mount Vernon Public Library will be talking about the Local Author Fair at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday mornong on WVOX.  WVOX is 1460 AM in Westchester.

Daily Thoughts 10/02/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I spent some more time contacting people through Linked In about the Local Author Fair.
http://mountvernonpubliclibrary.org/mount-vernon-local-author-fair-2017/

This morning, I am going to work on posters and fliers.

I read some more of The Core Strength Workout on the way to work.  I am reading about the importance of proper posture for health.

I printed up a lot of flyers.  I separated them into packs of flyers to be sent to different local libraries as well as flyers to be distributed in the community.

We are starting to distribute some of the 11" x 17" flyers.  Also, there should be two large posters outside the Mount Vernon Public library soon.

I adjusted the displays to include a number of local authors like Bruce Fabricant, Kenneth C. Davis, Larry Spruill, G. Mae McDowell, James Fair, Karen Leahy and others.

On the way home, I read some of Build A Great Team One Year To Success by Catherine Hakala-Ausperk who is the teacher for the Organization and Personnel Management class I am taking online for the CPLA-- Certified Public Library Administrator certificate.  It gives me a better idea of what to write for my assignments this week.

Daily Thoughts 10/01/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I spent some time contacting people on Linked In about the Mount Vernon Author Fair.  I wrote a brief article on Linked In to support this.

I read some of The Core Strength Workout Get Flat Abs and a Healthy Back , Pilates, Yoga, Exercise Ball by Karon Karter.  I have a large floor mat and an exercise ball.  This book focuses on the core of the body, the abs, the thighs, and the lower back.

I also started reading Expect More Demanding Better Libraries for Today's World by R. David Lankes.  This books is focused on building more community oriented libraries.

I watched the instruction video for my online class on Organization and Personnel Managment.

I checked the purchase alerts as well.
