Politicians - Vladimir Makovsky

Daily Thoughts 02/05/2018

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of The Victory Lab.  I am reading about the first Obama presidential campaign which was data driven.  They did some surprising things like put ads in pennysavers and on public transportation.

I stayed home today.  I am getting over the flu right now.

I finished reading The Victory Lab The Secret Science of Winning Campaigns by Sasha Issenberg.  In the last part of the book, Sasha Issenberg describes the Obama campaign which was driven by lots of statistics and computer algorithms.  Everything was tested, the mail, the phone banks, air time, social media, and any way to get more to vote for Obama was used.  The goal was to get your people to come out and discourage the other side from voting.  There was lots of discussion of how to do outreach to young people and what would motivate people to vote.  This included negative messages, peer pressure, emotional appeals, as well as appeals to rationality.  This helped me understand how politics works on a much deeper level.

I read some more of Campaign Boot Camp 2.0. on Hoopla. There is a "public service fitness test" which helps clarify your values.  It is very hard to be a politician without clearly defined stances and values.

I checked the Purchase Alerts today for items that we do not own that are on hold.

Daily Thoughts 02/04/2018

I checked the Twitter and Facebook for the library this morning.

I am reading about a book called Get Out the Vote: How To Increase Voter Turnout by Donald P. Green and Alan S. Gerber in the book, The Victory Lab.  I put the book, Get Out the Vote on hold.

I also read some more of Data Strategy.  I am reading about different kinds of analysis like video analysis, image analysis, text analysis, sentiment analysis,  voice analysis, data mining, and correlational analysis.

I read some of Campaign Boot Camp 2.0 on Hoopla today.  It asks you what your values are in the political process as a first step.

Daily Thoughts 02/02/2018

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of The Victory Lab.  I am learning why knowing whether or not your neighbor voted encourages people to vote.

I spent some time looking at the Codrone Lite.  You can buy classroom kits with an educators discount.

I did some more of my assignments for Winning Support and Influencing Communities for Library Funding.

My colleague is finishing up our list for programs for March, April, and May.  We also have a few programs already for June 2018.

Daily Thoughts 02/01/2018

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

On the way to work, I read some more of Data Strategy.  I am reading about how companies monetize and sell their data.

I also read some more of Victory Lab.  I am learning how political parties are trying to identify small groups of people and how they think using statistics and market data.

I checked the displays and the gift books.

I read a copy of the latest New York Review of Books.

I checked some books that were damaged to see what needed to be done with them.

Some of the shelving was fixed yesterday.

I am looking at ways to contact people to increase the number of people enrolled with library cards.
