I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.
I finished reading Hear My Sad Story The True Tales that Inspired Stagolee, John Henry, and other Traditional American Folk Songs by Richard Polenberg on the train to work.. This book is a mix of history, lore, and music. It is about American tragedy. We learn about the sinking of the Titanic, the railroad and mine strikes, the boll weevil which destroyed the cotton industry, working on a chain gang, being a highwayman, and many other tragic American events. The book is full of interesting tidbeis. Leadbelly, the blues singer worked on a chain gang in a prison and Joe Hill was a Swedish immigrant. This is a great book if you like history and folk music. All of the stories are documented, there is an index, notes, and black and white photographs throughout the book. Richard Polenberg is a professor at Cornell University. The style of the writing reminds me a little bit of Howard Zinn. It is both populist and entertaining reading.
I checked the gift books and the displays this morning.
I looked through a stack of old Publishers Weekly magazines and a copy of the Times Literary Supplement. I placed a hold on the book, Infomocracy by Malka Ann Older which is science fiction.
I put together a report on graphic novels from Reports Station so people could check the shelves to see what is there.
There is a Beginning Microsoft Powerpoint class tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. Also someone is being proctored in Study Room C.
I did a little bit of weeding.
There is a Motown Karaoke party tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the community room.
