Daily Thoughts 10/16/2017

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I also sent a few photographs to a colleague.

I read some more of Deep Thinking.  There is a little bit on how people can gain unfair advantages in chess.

I checked the displays and the gift books.  I also entered a few interlibrary loans this morning.

We had a meeting to discuss next years Mount Vernon Local Author Fair.

Right now, I am in the computer lab.

I put in two orders for new books.

I checked out the book Tool of War by Paolo Bacigalupi.  It is young adult science fiction.

I finished reading Deep Thinking Where Machine Intelligence Ends Human Creativity Begins by Garry Kasparov.   The last part is the best part.  Gary Kasparov describes how when humans and machines work together, they beat humans or machines alone at chess.   He also makes the argument that computers make chess more available to people.  There are many more young people involved with chess.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

Last night, I read some more of Deep Thinking by Garry Kasparov.  Kasparov describes how much of success in chess is in analyzing past games.  Losing to an opponent can be analyzed and there can be many rematches.

I did a little updating on the final report for the Mount Vernon Author Fair.

I checked the Twitter and Facebook for the library this morning.

I didn't read this morning.  I did a little planning on the way to work.

I posted three Bookletters lists, New Nonfiction Books, Job Information Center Books, and New Fiction Books.

I read through the latest Ingram Advance today.

My colleagues are visiting Eastchester right now to look at their Indie Author Day.

I placed the book Endurance: A Year In Space, A Lifetime of Discovery by Scott Kelly on hold.

We are meeting for the Mount Vernon Local Author Fair on Monday at 11: 15 a.m..  We are also meeting for the Signage Committee on Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m.

I wrote a rough draft for a summary of the Mount Vernon Local Authors Fair.

I read some more of Garry Kasparov, Deep Thinking on the way home.  Garry Kasparov is describing what it was like playing grand master level computers in chess.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook.

I read some more of Deep Thinking by Garry Kasparov.  I learned that the game of Go took much longer to crack than chess.  It was not until 2016, that a computer could beat a grandmaster of Go.  The programming also was more complex with neural nets and learning algorithms for Go.

I watched two more sessions of the Science of Mindfulness: A Research Based Path to Well Being on Hoopla.  Episode 11 Connecting With Children and Adolescents and Episode 12 Seeing Sadness and Depression in a New Light.

I checked the New York Times Bestseller list and the Publishers Weekly Bestseller list today.

I placed a hold on the book, Tool of War by Paolo Bacigalupi.  It is a young adult book.

I read the latest copy of the New York Times Book Review.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of Deep Thinking by Garry Kasparov.  Garry Kasparov is describing his connection with computers and how the personal computer has made it easier for people to develop excellent chess skills.  He describes how it is very easy to get master level chess teaching programs anywhere in the world.

I checked the displays and the gift books this morning.

I also printed some more flyers for the Papercrafts program this afternoon from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The papercrafts program went well today.  We had a lot of people who showed up.  We made skeleton masks for Day of the Dead.

I read copies of the New York Review of Books and the Times Literary Supplement.
