Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Daily Thoughts 12/6/2009
Tomorrow, I will go through Library Journal's best books of 2009. This is another excellent list of books like the New York Times 100 Best Books. http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6707422.html?desc=topstory
I have been working on my Facebook, Twitter, and Linked in accounts. They are slowly growing. I still have a lot more to learn on how to use them properly. I learned that the maximum number of followers on Linked In is 30,000 people. I can't imagine the use of that many people in a personal social network unless you are a salesperson or a recruiter. It is an interesting number.
I read some more of Daniel Goleman, Social Intelligence at the laundromat today.

I have been in touch with your blog since my entry into the blogging world as a blogger and it has been a treat reading your blog. I always thought after reading your posts, how good it would be staying in the company of books. But I must say, not all who stay so close to books can relish their company as you are. So it all varies from person to person, and also on our attitude. We must aim at learning with each passing day.
Every day is an opportunity to learn something new. I love books, but I also love the idea of self education which is the underlying purpose of libraries from their founding, to strengthen ones culture. Now, there is a loss of this focus.
Hopefully things will change back a little more and we will be able to buy better literature, technical books, job books, and things which elevate peoples ability to think.
One of the nice things about libraries is that you get out of them what you put into them.
