Daily Thoughts 06/15/2014

Happy Fathers Day.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook pages.

I read a little more of The Island at the Center of the World by Russell Shorto.  I am reading about the Dutch settlement of Manhattan.  The island was purchased for 60 guilders in trade goods.

I read a little more of Capital in the Twenty First Century by Thomas Piketty.  Piketty makes another literary allusion in the book using the book Pere Goriot by Balzac.   He describes how the quickest path to wealth in the 19th century is by inheriting it.  Thomas Piketty also describes how the richest peoples wealth currently is mainly in financial instruments like stocks.
