Daily Thoughts 2/5/2010

An article from Librarything about the ongoing book wars in the publishing business. Why Are You For Killing Libraries? http://www.librarything.com/thingology/2010/02/why-are-you-for-killing-libraries.phpn

Right now, I am looking at vendors. One of my favorite bookstores, Strand Books, has library services. http://www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/libserv/ I also spoke with BWI and may start looking at http://www.titletales.com .

I spent a little bit more time going through the donations and picked out a few classic titles like James Joyce's The Portrait of An Artist as a Young Man. People tend to donate a lot of the classics when they are done reading them in paperback. This is not a bad thing. We generally buy a lot of them in paperback for the junior high, high school, and college assignments. Everything from J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye to the Iliad.

Right now, I have started reading This Book Is Overdue How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All by Marilyn Johnson. I think I can comment on this, but not review this because the author is very close to where I am. The subjects are interesting which she covers. I can even recognize some of the people.
