I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I prepared a new journal starting tomorrow for the next year.

I read some more of Red Moon on the way to work.

I also read some more of Capitalism In America: A History.  I am reading about the concept of social darwinism and laissez faire economics.  I am also reading about tycoons in American history like John D. Rockefeller, Henry Ford, and John D. Rockefeller.

I spent some more time working on the Give Gab campaign today.  We are at close to 1% of our goal.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I also took a few minutes to look at the Give Gab campaign.
https://www.givegab.com/campaigns/teen-computer-lab

On the way to work, I read some more of Capitalism In America A History.  I am going to quote p.104 of this book, "America's genius lay in three things that are rather more subtle than invention: making inventions more user friendly; producing companies that can commercialize these innovations; and developing techniques for running these companies successfully."

I also read a little bit more of Red Moon.  I like the descriptions of technology in this story.  It describes a way we might colonize the moon.

I checked the displays and the gift books.  I spent some time going over art books with a colleague.

I checked out the book, This is Marketing You Can't Be Seen Until You Learn to See by Seth Godin.

I spent some time checking fiction books in the mezzanine.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I finished watching Ex Libris by Frederick Wiseman this morning.  The film focused on ideas in the library.  It did not so much look at operations, but ideas and management in New York Public Library.  Large amounts of the footage were of the board of directors, people making presentations, ideas about libraries being discussed, technology, and unique collections.

I went to Target and bought a set of 8 lb dumbbells.  I also bought two inspirational books from Star Wars,  Star Wars Be More Vader Assertive Thinking from the Dark Side and Star Wars Be More Yoda Mindful Thinking From A Galaxy Far Far Away both by Christian Blauvelt.  They were both worth a good laugh.

I also read some more of Capitalism In America A History.  I am reading about the development of transportation starting with the Pony Express, then the canal system, then the railroads.

I watched some of Ex Libris The New York Public Library produced by Frederick Wiseman on Kanopy.  It is a set of out takes with activities that happen in the New York Public Library.  It does not try to explain what people are doing.  It helps to understand and have a background in libraries before watching this movie.  I am finding it interesting.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I read some more of Capitalism In America: A History last night.  I am reading about the concept of creative destruction.

I finished reading In The House In the Dark of the Woods by Laird Hunt.  This book is a fantasy which draws from fairytales magic and legends.  It is written in the style of a weird tale.  It has hints of Lord Dunsany and magical realism.  The story and writing are hard to describe, but beautiful.  There is magic in this work, but it is the magic of seeing, the woods, and words.  Nothing is quite as it seems in the story.

I watched In Defense of Food An Eaters Manifesto which is a PBS special based on the book by Michael Pollan on Kanopy.  Michael Pollan is the narrator for the special.  His famous quote is "Eat food. Not too much.  Mostly plants."

Djeli Clark.  It is a fantasy set in a steampunk New Orleans.  A Haitian scientist has a secret weapon which must not fall into the wrong hands.  The main character creeper, is a young girl touched by the gods.  The premise and story are entertaining and well put together.  It was a quick read.

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

Last night I read A Darkling Sea by James L. Cambias.  It was his debut science fiction novel.  I like it because there is a different storyline.  Humans are studying aliens, the Ilmarans which are like giant intelligent shrimp or crabs.  There is conflict with another alien race over how humans should interact with the Ilmarans.  This makes for a an exciting story.

The story itself is hard science fiction.  People are exploring an alien ocean deep under ice using submarines, a deep sea base, and an elevator from the surface to the ocean.  I enjoyed the action and the technology in this story.  It was well worth reading.  There are three different viewpoint characters, each from a different species.  This makes the structure of the writing entertaining.

I also read some more of The Gifts of Acceptance.  I am reading about accepting children.

I spent some time posting to Twitter about our fundraiser on Give Gab.

Last night, I read Corsair by James L. Cambias.  It is a great story.  In the near future, a young hacker is stealing shipments of helium-3 from the moon by making the rockets land in the wrong place.  There is plenty of action, suspense, and interesting characters. The conflict mixes in the FBI, foreign agents, gun play, computer hacking, daring escapes, and plenty of trickery.  The story is set in 2033 not that far from now.

I also read some more of Weaponized Lies.  I am reading about how people manipulate statistics and averages to get the results they want.

I checked the New York Bestseller list and the Publishers Weekly Bestseller list. I also placed several Michelle Obama biographies on order.

I watched some more of the series Changing Body Composition Through Diet and Exercise on Kanopy.

There is also a Teen Gaming Hour from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

I watched some more of Changing Body Composition Through Diet and Exercise on Kanopy.  I am learning about how important it is to do both strength training and endurance exercise at the same time in order to lose weight.  I also learned that small protein snacks before bed are often helpful for losing weight.

Daily Thoughts 12/06/2018

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I rested on the way to work this morning.

I checked the displays and the gift books.

I also checked some duplicates.

I posted about Give Gab on LinkedIn and on Facebook.

I spent some time looking up contact information for vendors.

I turned in my summary report of what was accomplished this year as a power point.

I am almost done with the monthly report.  I am waiting for some final statistics.

I checked out two books, Weaponized Lies How To Think Critically in the Post-Truth Era by Daniel J. Levitin and The Bullet Journal Method Track the Past Order the Present Design the Future by Ryder Carroll.
