Daily Thoughts 06/30/2019

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I spent some time going over issues surrounding weeding and mending books and other items.

I finished reading Crucial Conversations Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High by Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan and Al Switzler.  This is a combination of a self help book and a book on communication.  It motivates you to communicate better.  The focus is on dealing with anger, paying attention, and avoiding silence in communication.  The book focuses on some straightforward on how to do this.  I plan on rereading this book to better understand what is being suggested.

Daily Thoughts 06/24/2019

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this morning.

I finished reading The Horse, The Wheel and Language How Bronze Age Riders From the Eurasian Steppes Shaped the Modern World by David W. Anthony at the laundromat.  A lot of the material in this book comes from archaeology from Russia and the Balkans which was not easily available until now.  Even though this book had a lot of academic material in it, I still found it fascinating.  There was a lot about the domestication of horses, how the wheel was first used for wagons, then chariots, as well as a lot on burial practices and customs.  This book is interesting from both a historical and archeological perspective.  There is also material on linguistics which adds to the content.  I found this well worth reading.

Daily Thoughts 06/14/2019

I checked the library Twitter and Facebook this evening.

I read some more of Marcus Aurelius Meditations.

I also read some more of Outer Order Inner Calm by Gretchen Rubin.  I am reading about how clearing clutter helps improve concentration.

I went to If We Build It... Sustainable Funding in Libraries and Archives at Metro New York Library Council.  Metro has a new location on 599 11th Avenue on the 8th floor of the building.  It is very clean and well lit.

When I went to the presentation, they asked us not to identify which people were saying different things.  We could write what we liked, but no identities.

I learned about a number of different organizations.  The content was very interesting.  Some of it will be quite useful.  I have to think a little bit more about what I will say about it.

The program ran from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the whole day and also had a lunch.
