Portrait of Charles Dickens, Francis Alexander 1842

Daily Thoughts 08/01/2012

This morning I read some more of Buddypress for Dummies.  The author was describing how social networks are basically a way to communicate.  I also read some more of Difficult Situations.  The authors are writing about how emotions often prevent people from approaching difficult subjects.

This morning, I updated the Twitter and Facebook pages for the library.

This afternoon, I read the latest New York Times Book Review and the latest Publishers Weekly.  There is a review of Joseph Stiglitz, The Price of Inequality and a new literary science fiction novel, Shine Shine Shine by Lydia Netzer in the August 5, 2012 New York Times Book Review.

I also went through and checked the Purchase Alerts and the Collection Management Sheet.  Many of the Purchase Alerts are for bestselling books like Danielle Steel Best Friends Forever, or Gone Girl: A Novel by Gillian Flynn-- this novel is becoming extremely popular very fast. Quite a few of the Collection Management Sheet items are test books or health education books like Mosby's Nursing Assistant.

I rather like the idea of a Digital Public Library of America.
